A 60-day voyage circling the Australian Coast is being halted in the wake of the death of an elderly lady who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a break. The vessel left without her and returned several hours later after the ship staff discovered the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission discovered her person the following day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, together with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Head of the cruise operator said that travelers and staff on the ship were told that the continuation of the cruise had been called off due to the "tragic passing and previous technical problems".

Via official communication, he added that travelers would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the passengers via private aircraft".

Officials also issued an latest announcement, and said they had "issued a order to the Master" banning any additional guests from getting on the liner.

The official said that they would visit the liner in Cairns upon its arrival.

The ship originally sailed from the Australian port on 24 October, and was merely two days into the expedition at the point of the senior passenger's death. The tropical location was the initial destination on the voyage.

Passengers on the ship - who usually pay substantial amounts of money to take part in the cruise - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the possibility of walking or snorkelling.

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her family was "shocked and distressed that the ship left the island after an planned outing without my mother".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her parent as an "active octogenarian" who was a member of a walking club.

"Based on limited information we have been informed, it looks that there was a breakdown of responsibility and basic judgment," she said.

She continued that she hoped the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have saved Her life".

"We understand from the police that it was a very hot afternoon, and mother fell ill on the hill climb," she stated.

"They requested her to go back, unescorted. Then the ship sailed away, seemingly without doing a roll call.

"During some point in that process, or soon after, mum died, alone."

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the company was "collaborating extensively with investigators to support their investigation".

He said that the organization was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had provided its full support to the relatives.

The liner serves up to a hundred twenty guests with forty-six staff, according to official information. It was purpose-built to enter isolated locations of the Australian shoreline and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to ferry travelers on shore trips.
