Kennedy Center Votes for Major Renaming to Trump-Kennedy Center, As Stated by Administration Announcement.

The governing board of the prestigious performing arts venue has approved a measure to adopt a new name the Trump-Kennedy Center, according to a statement from the White House.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt declared online that the board's vote was unified, crediting "the extraordinary job President Trump has done over the last year in preserving the building."

"This is destined to be a truly great team long into the future! The building will no doubt reach new levels of prestige and accomplishment," Leavitt added.

The intended name change is expected to be highly controversial, especially in Washington, D.C., where the center has stood as an architectural and cultural icon since its construction and dedication for President John F. Kennedy.

Recent History of the Venue

Soon after taking office, President Donald Trump dismissed all the center's sitting board members and installed allies in their stead. The freshly appointed board then voted to name Trump the chairman.

The president was instrumental in securing approximately $257 million in appropriated money to cover major renovations and associated costs at the national venue.

Historical Roots

The vision for a national performing arts center was first proposed in the 1950s. Following the murder of President John F. Kennedy, the 35th president, in 1963, the planned venue was christened the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
