Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extended clash where the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million spectators in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total US viewership was 16.1M. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen various tongues.
