A Number of Hurt as Rough Air Strikes A Delta Airlines Flight Arriving in Sydney
A number of individuals sustained injuries when a Delta Airlines aircraft traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney experienced rough air on Friday morning.
Flight DL41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it touched down at Sydney Airport, a company official stated. Four flight attendants sustained injuries.
Emergency medical services reported they assessed a total of five people, and transported three of them to the hospital with minor injuries that included pain in the back and headaches. Those affected ranged from their 30s to 70s.
It is the most recent case of planes encountering severe turbulence, with researchers pointing out that shifting climate patterns is a significant contributor.
The aircraft was carrying 245 passengers and 15 crew members on the aircraft, the Delta spokesperson added, stating that the plane touched down "safely" at Sydney Airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on Friday morning.
Emergency responders said they were alerted just a mere three minutes prior to the plane touched down, and response teams were ready and waiting at the airport.
